After its appearance in mid-1943, the Panther was one of the mainstays of German armour through to the end of WWII. The Ausf. G (type G) variant was available to troops from 1944, and was itself upgraded in the second half of the year. The improvements included an alteration to the lower section of the gun shield to stop direct hits from entering the crew space, and it was given more of a jutting design to further improve survivability; damped exhausts improved nighttime stealth; and air intakes were added on the engine grilles to supply the crew with warm air in cold conditions. Now, we are delighted to announce the updated version of Item 56014 - 1/16 R/C M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer with a new gearbox which uses one Type 540 motor (two Type 380 motors in the original kit) which recreates the controlled differential steering system of the actual tank. Generally speaking, tanks used the clutch-brake steering system – the power is disconnected from the side of turning direction with sprocket brakes and the tank turns by making differential rotations between right and left tracks. On the other hand, the M4 Sherman employed the controlled differential steering system which allows smooth turning by changing rotation speeds of right and left tracks with differential gear without disconnecting the power. While sprocket brake still works, the brake completely stops during turnings, and this system limits drive loss and brake overheating. During WWII, most American tanks featured this steering system. The chassis front armour was 150mm thick with 80mm thick side armor and powered by a 700hp Maybach HL230-P30 engine. The Henschel and Porsche companies came up with rival turret prototypes. The first fifty tanks produced had Porsche turret whereas subsequent tanks were equipped with the Henschel designed production turret that featured many improvements over the first model. The King Tiger was armed with a 71-caliber 88mm gun that had enough power to pierce 150mm thick armour from 2,000m away. Between the beginning of production in Summer 1944 and March 1945, 440 units were completed. Due to the havoc wreaked by the King Tiger during the final German offensive on the Ardennes front in December of 1944, the Allied forces that moved in on Berlin would fear the King Tiger up until the very last day of the war.

About the Model

1/16 R/C German Heavy Tank King Tiger assembly kit

Overall Length: 640mm, Overall Width: 235mm.
