Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II is a 5th Generation fighter developed under the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, successfully providing extremely low observability, network connectivity and exemplary situational awareness. Developed to take over from Navy F\/A-18s, the F-35C is designed for use with CATOBAR (catapult assisted takeoff but arrested recovery) systems. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eLarger wings and horizontal stabilizers than other F-35 variants help it with slower landings on carriers, while its wing tips fold ninety degrees upward to allow for more room on deck. The F-35C has a rear arresting hook which catches the arresting cables on the flight deck, slowing it and allowing a landing in the limited space. Also, the F-35C nose landing gear is connected to the catapult shuttle via its catapult hook for catapult-assisted takeoffs.
